Dental Exams

Proper dental care does not end at regularly brushing and flossing your teeth. Routine dental examinations are vital to ensure that you have good oral health and allow us to detect and treat dental problems such as cavities or tooth decay at an early stage. They also help avoid bigger dental problems like root canal procedures or gum infections. A dental examination should be performed at least twice a year. If it's been more than six months since your teeth were last examined by our professionals, we highly recommend visiting our office at Henricksen Family Dental to ensure there are no problems that require treatment.

Better Dental Health

Good oral hygiene is important for your overall health. Undetected or untreated issues can lead to serious complications, including infections that can impact the rest of your body. Avoiding dental issues is always the preferred outcome of dental visits, however catching any developments early is equally important. The sooner problems are detected and addressed, the easier they are to rectify and the less likely it is for you to lose a tooth.

Prevent Cavities and Other Dental Issues

Brushing and flossing alone cannot completely prevent cavities, although both activities are extremely important. Cavities usually develop when food particles are stuck in between hard to reach places where the toothbrush and the floss cannot reach, something that could also result in eventual plaque and tartar buildup. This cavity will ultimately compromise your tooth if left untreated, but if detected while still in the early stages of formation, it can be treated and stopped with a dental filling. The consequences for leaving it untreated can be far more unpleasant, including a root canal.

Regular dental exams help keep the whole of your mouth and jaw in good condition. Beyond smaller issues like cavities or tartar buildup, routine exams can help detect more serious problems like gingivitis or oral cancer before they have time to thrive. Early intervention dramatically improves the outcome of these issues and the sooner we start treatment, the sooner you will feel much better.

Avoid Bad Breath

Bad breath is often the result of poor dental hygiene and certain infections that could be causing an unpleasant smell. Regular general examinations not only help us understand what causes your bad smell but it also helps us to treat it from the root cause so that it does not continue to cause you any sort of embarrassment or discomfort. And if there is some sort of underlying issue that is causing your bad breath, we can intervene there, too, and give you as much information as possible. Even if we cannot treat your bad breath in rare instances, in other words, we can give you information to take to your doctor or specialist.

Because your oral health is so important to your overall health, it is important to see a dentist regularly – at least every six months at a minimum. If you’re running behind or simply want to schedule an appointment, feel free to reach out to us at (360) 740-2119 or visit our office at Henricksen Family Dental so that we can help.
