When to Visit a Pediatric Dentist

Posted on 10/25/2021 by Henricksen Family Dental
When to Visit a Pediatric DentistIn much the same way you take your kid to see a pediatrician for a general health checkup, you should do the same when it comes to their dental health. You take them to a pediatric dentist, who understands everything about dental health and how you can ensure that your child maintains optimal dental health. Our pediatric dentist will perform a comprehensive oral exam to ensure that your child is in proper dental health and correct any issues that may be arising.

When to visit the dentist for the first time

The first dental visit for your child should be about half a year after the emergence of their first tooth. Many pediatric dentists say that the first tooth emerges when the child is around six months old, therefore putting the first visit of the child when they are one year old.

Many parents feel this to be a young age, but to maintain proper dental hygiene of your child's teeth, the first visit is particularly important. Even though the first teeth will eventually fall off, they still need to be in the best health, to play their natural functions.

Do not wait until your child has dental issues

Prevention is the magic word when it comes to children's dental health. Between the ages of four and six, the dentist can recommend an X-ray to check for any cavities that may be hiding in between teeth.

The primary teeth which eventually fall off are important as they provide the space in which permanent teeth will grow into. Therefore, regular dental visits for your child will be important to ensure that the permanent teeth will have healthy spaces from which they will emerge.

Follow the standard two visits a year

Your child needs to visit a pediatric dentist after every six months, for a dental checkup. The dentist will have ample time to prevent and correct any dental conditions that may affect your child.

Visit us at our offices to get your child top-quality dental care. You can also call us to consult with a pediatric dentist if you have any questions.
