Play Contact Sports? Then You May Need a Mouthguard

Posted on 2/22/2021 by Henricksen Family Dental
Play Contact Sports? Then You May Need a MouthguardContact sports are those sports that require physical contact between the players. Because of this, players are often prone to injuries due to the rough actions of fellow players. These sports include martial arts, football, hockey, lacrosse, rugby, and other such sports which require players to tackle each other. Safety gear is obviously a requirement while playing these, but a crucial protective item that most players of contact sports seem to forget about are mouthguards.

Why Get a Mouthguard?

The number of people who participate in contact sports has been on the rise lately, to the extent that they have even been introduced in schools as extracurricular activities and are given prime importance. Tournaments are held in almost every season of the year, as well. Even though the safety of the players is always the primary focus of the organizers, accidents are bound to happen. To stay on the safe side, you should always try prepping yourself with the complete safety gear if you are one to participate in such sports.

What Are Mouthguards, and What Do They Do?

Mouthguards are protective layers that can be worn over our teeth. They protect our teeth, lips, and inner linings of our mouth from getting injured while we are playing a sport. Mouthguards are usually worn over our upper teeth, but variations that cover both the upper and lower teeth are available as well. Mouthguards come in two kinds. Stock mouthguards are pre-made and inexpensive and can be bought from any regular sportswear store. Custom-fitted mouthguards are made specifically in our office and provide far better comfort and protection than the regular stock mouthguards.

If you have any questions regarding the working of mouthguards or want to have a custom mouthguard made for yourself, we are here to answer any mouthguard-related questions or any other concerns regarding your oral health. To learn more, please give us a call to schedule an appointment today!
